WIP - Roman Senator of the Republic (part 1)

This is the second bust I have started to paint, the lovely H & V Miniatures depiction of an old Roman Senator dressed in the typical white toga with the distinctive purple stripes.

I bought this model during the Scale Model Challenge 2013 show in Veldhoven (Holland) at the H & V stand manned by the most friendly Mrs. Ruiz. When she showed me the high quality resin parts in the box,  I simply could not resist anymore.

There are only two parts: the head and the torso, which make 'construction' utterly straightforward. In fact I will joint both parts only after the painting has been done. No cleaning up at all either, everything being casted with perfection. So it was just opening the box, applying a fine coat of white primer and the painting fun could start!

As usual first an acrylic undercoat (Vallejo Model Color) was applied using pale sand for the toga and beige red for the skin; then some brass and flat green for the jewelery. The purple stripes indicating senatorial rank will be painted directly with oil paint once the white colour of the toga has been finished.

Contrary to my usual habit, I already sketched the eyes with acrylics. The finishing touches will be done with oils, of course.

Stay tuned for more...
